Carter Starocci Achieves Unprecedented NCAA Wrestling Milestone
Penn State wrestler Carter Starocci has etched his name into NCAA wrestling history by becoming the first-ever five-time Division I champion. This landmark achievement was celebrated on March 22, 2025, during the NCAA championships held in Philadelphia.

Starocci secured his fifth title in the 184-pound weight class by narrowly defeating Parker Keckeisen from Northern Iowa with a score of 4-3. In an interview with Fox News, Starocci recounted his memorable exchange with Trump: “When I heard he was coming, I kind of figured I was going to go over there and say a few words to my man.” The two shared a moment where Trump complimented Starocci, stating, “You’re one of my favorite wrestlers to watch in the world. I love your tenacity. I love your interviews.”

During their conversation, Starocci not only expressed appreciation for Trump’s positive impact but also shared how the presence of the former president created pressure during his preparation for the match. “I told him the story, too. [I said], ‘When I was warming up, they kind of made it a little hard for me because you’re the big dog,'” he said, adding that Trump responded with laughter.
Starocci views this achievement as a “stepping stone” not just for himself, but also for the Penn State wrestling program. Looking ahead, he has set ambitious goals, including competing for a medal at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
