“His dedication and humility were an inspiration to many and I remember his visit to the UK in 1977 with great fondness.”

King Charles added: “My thoughts and prayers are with President Carter’s family and the American people at this time.”

Carter passed away at his home in Georgia surrounded by his family.

“My father was a hero, not just to me, but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights and selfless love,” said Chip Carter, the former president’s son. “My brothers, sisters, and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs. The world is our family because of the way he brought people together. And… Thank you for honoring his memory by keeping these shared beliefs alive.” ”
