Patrick Mahomes Unveils New Look Amid Career Reflections
A Fresh Start for Mahomes
In February of this year, Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, surprised fans with a significant hairstyle change, opting for a cropped cut with a fade, leaving behind his well-known curly Mohawk. This change came after years of maintaining the same look, which he originally held onto due to superstitions associated with his performance on the field.
Behind the Cut
Mahomes’ barber, DeJuan Bonds, speculated that “frustration” might have played a role in the decision. However, Mahomes clarified that his lengthy hairstyle was more a matter of superstition, stating, “I kept winning the Super Bowl, which is a good thing, but I didn’t want to cut the hair while I was doing it.”
Despite his earlier reservations, Mahomes felt it was time for a change. He expressed his excitement, declaring, “I told everybody during the season that win or lose, if we win three in a row or if we lose, I’m getting a haircut—that’s enough.”
Reflections on the NFL Draft
As he adjusted to his new appearance, Mahomes also reflected on an important milestone in his career—the NFL Draft, where he was selected as the 10th overall pick in 2017. Recalling the nervousness of that day, he shared, “You’re so nervous all day long. I remember I played a round of golf in the morning; I don’t remember one shot from that golf round.”
The quarterback enjoyed the opportunity to be with friends and family during the draft, noting, “Being able to get drafted by the Chiefs and the team that I wanted to draft me … it was super exciting.”
Looking Ahead
Moving forward with his new hairstyle and the beginning of another season, the Chiefs will have the 31st overall pick following their recent run, in which they fell short of securing a third Super Bowl title in a row. Mahomes remains optimistic about the future and is eager to carry his new look into the upcoming games.
