Governor Glenn Youngkin Advocates for Tougher Immigration Policies Amid MS-13 Arrests
Recent Law Enforcement Actions
Virginia’s Governor Glenn Youngkin recently appeared on Fox News’ “Hannity” to highlight the ongoing challenges surrounding illegal immigration, particularly in the context of organized crime. His remarks followed the arrest of Henrry Josue Villatoro Santos, a significant MS-13 gang figure who had resided in the U.S. for over a decade.
Santos was apprehended due to an outstanding warrant, which led to charges of illegal firearm possession following a search at his residence.
Collaboration with Federal Agencies
During the operation that resulted in Santos’ arrest, Youngkin noted the critical role played by an interagency task force involving the FBI and the Department of Justice. This collaborative effort has led to the arrest of 28 MS-13 gang members and 19 individuals affiliated with the Tren de Aragua gang in a matter of weeks.
Criticism of Current Immigration Policies
In his interview, Youngkin expressed discontent with the current administration’s immigration policies, specifically criticizing President Biden for transforming Virginia into what he described as a “sanctuary state.” Youngkin emphasized the stark difference regarding immigration enforcement during Trump’s presidency.
“Today, this collaboration between state police, our Department of Corrections, Homeland Security, the FBI, ICE, and lots of folks from the U.S. Attorney’s Office – we went to work and they brought down one of the top MS-13 operatives in America,” Youngkin stated. “And let me tell you, Virginia is safer.”
Federal and State Cooperation
Youngkin proclaimed that during Biden’s tenure, cooperation among state and federal law enforcement was lacking. He asserted, “I didn’t have it for three years. And as soon as President Trump showed up, we went to work. And we’re making America and Virginia safer.”
